📍 Sludgemaw – Where to Find & How to Unlock

-
Sludgemaw is a boss encountered during the All Charged Up side mission.
-
This mission is in the Fadefields region, specifically in the Idolator’s Noose sub-region, under the Watershed Gate Point of Interest (POI).
-
To unlock All Charged Up, you must have first completed the Null and Void side mission.
🧭 How to Reach Sludgemaw
Here’s the route & steps:
-
Start the All Charged Up side mission (after Null and Void) by talking to Rhodes.
-
Escort the implosion drive through various areas inside the hydroplant / Order facility, going through gates, damaging water valves, opening paths etc.
-
Eventually you’ll reach the reservoir area; drain water, operate controls to lower loader, clear enemies.
-
After reactor and control tasks, a sequence sends you down via ejecting the implosion drive through a gap / hole leading into an underground cave.
-
The cave below this eject point is where Sludgemaw is located; enter there and you’re headed into the boss arena.
⚔ Sludgemaw – Fight Strategy & Tips
-
Sludgemaw is a large Thresher-type beast that burrows under the ground, popping out to strike with claws and throw boulders/projectiles.
-
Key behaviors:
-
Burrow & pop-up attacks — be ready to dodge when it emerges.
-
Ranged projectiles — avoid those by staying mobile and using cover where possible.
-
Claw swipes and melee reaches — watch its claws and retreat when needed.
-
-
Good strategy: use weapons with area coverage (AOE or splash), keep distance when possible, hit it during its emerging moments.
🛠 Recommended Build / Preparation
-
Bring gear/items that help with mobility (to dodge burrow attacks and return to safe ground).
-
Use weapons strong against armored health / splash damage for when Sludgemaw burrows and surfaces.
-
Ensure you’ve unlocked or can access the boss replay (“Encore Machine”) near the arena to farm Sludgemaw for drops repeatedly once you beat it.
-
Level up so you aren’t underpowered — high damage helps shorten the fight and reduce exposure to risky moments.
