Marathon NuCal Employee ID Guide – How to Clear the Tick-Infested Building

The Introducing NuCaloric Priority Contract in Marathon sends Runners into one of the more deceptive early-game objectives: retrieving a NuCal Employee ID from a sealed, Tick-infested structure in the Columns area.

At first glance, the building appears bugged—the front door won’t open, and it’s surrounded by nests and automated defenses. In reality, this contract is designed to test your awareness, positioning, and ability to clear environmental threats efficiently.

Below is a full step-by-step guide covering where to go, how to enter the building, how to survive the infestation, and how to finish the contract cleanly.

Step 1: Accept the Introducing NuCaloric Contract

    Marathon NuCal Employee ID Guide

The mission is assigned by Oni of the Cyberacme faction. After accepting it, deploy to the Perimeter map.

    Your destination is:

Columns – a minor point of interest located between Overflow and South Relay.

Columns is easy to miss if you’re sprinting across the map, so slow down and confirm your minimap marker.

If you’re pushing contracts back-to-back and want smoother progression through early faction tiers, some players opt for a Marathon Boosting service to accelerate Cyberacme reputation gains.

Step 2: Secure the Exterior First

When you arrive at Columns, you’ll see:

    • A small building overtaken by Tick nests

    • Several UESC Turrets guarding the perimeter

    • A locked main entrance

    Do not rush inside.

Clear Priority Targets in This Order:

    1️⃣ UESC Turrets

These deal consistent shield damage and can easily overwhelm you while Ticks swarm.

    2️⃣ Tick Nests

Instead of wasting ammo on individual Ticks, shoot directly at the nest structures. Destroying a nest stops new spawns immediately and makes the area manageable.

Using high burst or splash-damage weapons makes this step much easier. If your loadout feels underpowered against turret pressure, upgrading beforehand or choosing to Buy Marathon weapons can dramatically reduce risk in swarm-heavy POIs.

Step 3: The Locked Door Isn’t a Glitch

After clearing the outside, you’ll likely approach the front entrance and realize it won’t open.

    This is intentional.

There’s no keypad or external override. The game expects you to find an alternate route.

Step 4: Access the Roof Vent

Circle to the back of the building.

    You’ll find:

    • A ladder leading to the roof

    • A destructible ventilation cover

Climb the ladder, destroy the vent cover, and drop inside.

Be prepared—multiple Tick nests are active indoors.

    Step 5: Restore Power Immediately

Once inside, don’t push forward blindly.

Locate the wall-mounted power panel and interact with it.

    Restoring power:

    • Unlocks the main door

    • Activates interior systems

    • Provides an emergency escape route

Stand near the doorway after restoring power and clear the interior nests from a defensible angle.

Holding a choke point prevents Ticks from surrounding you.

If you’re running low on Shield Charges or healing items during this stage, stocking up through reliable Marathon Items for sale before deploying can prevent mid-contract failures.

Step 6: Locate the NuCal Employee ID

After clearing interior nests, look to your right.

There’s a small office room accessible through a side door.

    Inside, you’ll find:

The NuCal Employee ID resting on top of a desk.

Interact with it to complete the first objective of Introducing NuCaloric.

The ID is not hidden—it’s clearly visible once you enter the office.

Step 7: Download the Employee Data

Picking up the ID is not the final step.

Turn around and locate the red terminal nearby.

    Interact with it to:

    • Download employee data

    • Fully complete the Introducing NuCaloric contract

Failing to use the terminal means the contract remains incomplete—even if you picked up the ID.

    Contract Rewards Overview

Upon returning to HQ, you’ll receive:

    • 2x Protector V1 Implants

    • 6x Shield Charge

    • 3x Unstable Biomass

    • 6x Patch Kit

    • 1000 Credits

    • Cyberacme faction XP

This mission is particularly valuable early on because it helps unlock further Priority Contracts while boosting faction standing.

Survival Tips for the Tick-Infested Building

Even though this is an early contract, it can punish careless play.

    ✔ Clear Outside Before Entering

Trying to deal with turrets and interior nests simultaneously often results in shield collapse.

✔ Use Door Frames as Defensive Points

Standing in narrow entrances limits Tick flanking angles.

✔ Move Quickly After Downloading Data

Columns can attract other Runners. Once your objective is complete, extract efficiently.

✔ Bring Burst or AoE Weapons

Swarm control is far more important than long-range precision in this contract.

If PvP encounters around Columns are slowing your progression, upgrading your combat effectiveness before deployment—especially with stronger weapon options—can drastically improve survival odds.

    PvP Risk Around Columns

Although Columns isn’t a major hotspot, contract objectives draw attention.

    Expect:

    • Players attempting the same contract

    • Opportunistic third-party engagements

    • Snipers watching rooftops

After clearing the exterior and restoring power, you’re vulnerable for a short window. Minimize downtime between objectives.

    Why This Contract Matters

Introducing NuCaloric is more than just a simple fetch mission. It teaches core Marathon fundamentals:

    • Alternate building entry paths

    • Environmental hazard prioritization

    • Swarm control discipline

    • Contract objective sequencing

Mastering this building layout also makes future runs through Columns significantly safer.

    Common Mistakes to Avoid

❌ Shooting individual Ticks instead of nests
❌ Ignoring turret fire while clearing
❌ Trying to brute-force the locked front door
    ❌ Forgetting to restore power
❌ Leaving without interacting with the red terminal

    Final Thoughts

The Tick-Infested Building may look chaotic at first, but once you understand the flow, it becomes a clean and repeatable objective:

Clear exterior → climb ladder → break vent → restore power → eliminate nests → grab ID → download data → extract.

Approach it methodically, and the Introducing NuCaloric contract becomes one of the smoother early Priority missions in Marathon.
