The High Zaptitude event brings an electric surge to Pokémon GO, introducing a brand-new Pokémon line alongside boosted Electric-type spawns, limited-time research, and shiny hunting opportunities. Whether you’re chasing Pokédex entries, grinding XP, or farming candy for future evolutions, this event rewards smart planning and efficient play.

This guide covers everything you need to know about High Zaptitude, including event dates, how to unlock Wattrel, research rewards, spawn pools, egg hatches, shiny availability, and the best strategies to maximize your progress.

High Zaptitude Event Dates & Overview

Pokémon GO High Zaptitude Event Guide

    • Start: January 13 at 10:00 AM (local time)

    • End: January 18 at 8:00 PM (local time)

High Zaptitude focuses on Electric- and Flying-type Pokémon, with the headline feature being the Pokémon GO debut of Wattrel, the Storm Petrel Pokémon first seen in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Its evolution, Kilowattrel, also becomes available for the first time.

Unlike most event debuts, Wattrel isn’t immediately available in the wild—you’ll need to work together with the global community to unlock it.

How to Get Wattrel in Pokémon GO

Wattrel’s appearance is tied to Global Challenges, which require players worldwide to collectively complete objectives.

    Global Challenge Progression

    1. Stage One: Players must explore a massive combined distance.

      • Once completed, a bonus (such as increased catch XP) is unlocked.

    2. Stage Two: Unlocks after Stage One is cleared.

      • When completed, Wattrel begins spawning in the wild.

    You can track progress by:

    • Tapping the Binoculars icon on the main map

    • Opening the Events tab

    • Scrolling to the Global Challenge section

Once unlocked, Wattrel can also appear as a Field Research encounter, making it easier to farm consistent spawns.

How to Evolve Wattrel into Kilowattrel

After catching Wattrel, you can evolve it into Kilowattrel using:

    • 50 Wattrel Candy

    To speed this up:

    • Use Pinap Berries on every Wattrel encounter

    • Set Wattrel as your Buddy Pokémon

    • Prioritize Field Research encounters once unlocked

While Kilowattrel won’t dominate PvP immediately, it adds valuable type coverage and future potential depending on move updates.

High Zaptitude Field Research Tasks & Rewards

Event-themed Field Research tasks appear at PokéStops during High Zaptitude.

    Standard Field Research

    • Catch 5 Pokémon
Rewards: Chinchou, Tynamo, or Helioptile encounter

    • Catch 15 Pokémon
Rewards: Emolga, Yamper, or Tadbulb encounter

    • (Unlocked after Global Challenge Stage Two)
      Reward: Wattrel encounter

These tasks are excellent for shiny hunting and targeted candy farming, especially for Tadbulb.

    Premium Timed Research (Paid)

Players can purchase a $1.99 Premium Timed Research ticket, which includes two steps focused on Tadbulb encounters.

    Step Structure

    Each step includes:

    • Catch Pokémon objectives

    • Explore 1 km tasks

    • Multiple Tadbulb encounters

    Total Rewards

    • Multiple Tadbulb encounters

    • Incubator + Super Incubator

    • 18,800 XP

This research is particularly valuable if you’re shiny hunting Tadbulb or preparing to evolve Bellibolt.

Event Spawns: What’s Appearing in the Wild

During High Zaptitude, the following Pokémon appear more frequently:

    Pokémon Shiny Available
    Pikachu Yes
    Alolan Geodude Yes
    Hisuian Voltorb Yes
    Chinchou Yes
    Blitzle Yes
    Emolga Yes
    Tynamo Yes
    Helioptile Yes
    Dedenne Yes
    Yamper No
    Tadbulb Yes
    Shinx Yes
    Wattrel No

Electric-type fans will find this event especially rewarding for shiny checks and candy stockpiling.

    2 km Egg Hatch Pool

These Pokémon hatch from 2 km Eggs during the event:

    • Pichu (Shiny available)

    • Elekid (Shiny available)

    • Toxel (Shiny available)

    • Tadbulb (Shiny available)

Using Incubators strategically during this event can significantly boost shiny odds per distance walked.

    Shiny Availability: What to Hunt

    • Wattrel & Kilowattrel: ❌ Not shiny yet

    • Tadbulb & Bellibolt: ✅ Shiny debut with boosted odds

Tadbulb is the main shiny target of the event. Evolving it into Bellibolt requires 50 Candy, so stacking encounters now pays off later.

    Optimizing the Event Efficiently

To get the most out of High Zaptitude:

    • Focus on Global Challenge completion early

    • Stack Field Research before Wattrel unlocks

    • Use Pinap Berries instead of Razz when possible

    • Prioritize 2 km Eggs for efficient incubator use

    • Plan longer walking sessions to combine eggs, buddy candy, and research

    Faster Progress

Some players want event rewards without grinding every hour. That’s where Pokémon GO Boosting at GladiatorBoost becomes useful. Boosting services help players complete timed research, earn XP, farm candy, and keep up with limited-time events like High Zaptitude—especially if real-life schedules limit playtime.

For collectors and competitive players, it’s a practical way to stay current without missing key Pokémon debuts.

    Final Thoughts

High Zaptitude is a compact but rewarding event that introduces Wattrel, debuts shiny Tadbulb, and offers strong Electric-type farming opportunities. While Wattrel itself isn’t shiny yet, unlocking and evolving it early keeps your Pokédex ahead of the curve.

If you focus on Global Challenges, research tasks, and efficient candy farming, this event delivers excellent long-term value with minimal wasted effort.
