Unearthing Secrets: How to Complete the “Digging Up Dirt” Courtyard Dead Drop Quest in Arc Raiders

November 18, 2025

The Digging Up Dirt quest is one of Celeste’s more cryptic assignments in Arc Raiders, especially since the quest marker intentionally misleads players into thinking the objective is easily accessible. In reality, this mission demands careful navigation through the Buried City and a bit of environmental problem-solving to reach a hidden courtyard that can’t be entered from ground level. Players often overlook key traversal routes, causing this quest to take far longer than it should.

This guide breaks down the entire mission, showing you exactly how to enter the blocked courtyard, how to avoid detection, and how to complete the dead drop objective efficiently—even during Night Raids when visibility is low and enemy patrols are aggressive.

Preparing for the Digging Up Dirt Quest

ARC Raiders Digging Up Dirt Quest Guide

Before launching the mission, load into the Buried City map. The quest is playable in normal mode, but if you’re planning to gather high-value loot or want extra challenge, consider opting into a Night Raid if it’s available. Night Raids offer better farming opportunities but come with a major caveat:

    • Avoid unnecessary flashlight use, as raiders detect the beam quickly and will often ambush you.

Your first objective will be to locate the Santa Maria Houses, a residential block sitting subtly between the “Maria” and “Houses” labels on the map. This demographic cluster is partially elevated and designed with limited ground-level access—making it the perfect place for a hidden dead drop.

    Locating the Santa Maria Houses

Once you spawn in the Buried City, move toward the Santa Maria Houses region. Unlike larger and more obvious structures like the Plaza Rosa or the Red Tower, this area blends into the surrounding architecture, so watch your map closely as you approach.

Upon arrival, your objective will update, directing you to “find the dead drop inside the courtyard.” Unfortunately, you’ll soon discover the issue: every ground-level door leading into the courtyards is locked from the inside.

If you are not the first player to arrive, there is a small chance another raider has already opened one of the interior doors, allowing you to walk in freely. However, this is extremely rare and not something you should depend on.

To reach the courtyard reliably, you’ll need to access the building from above.

    Finding the Alternate Entry Route

Because the courtyard is sealed from below, you must enter by traversing rooftops via a nearby structure. Here’s the exact route:

    1. Enter the adjacent house

Standing outside the Santa Maria Houses, look for the neighboring building connected by a potential upper path. This is the only structure with an open entryway.

Go inside and immediately locate the stairs.

    2. Climb to the top floor

Ascend the stairwell all the way to the highest accessible level. Enemy raiders may patrol here depending on spawn randomness, so proceed carefully and listen for footsteps.

    3. Use the rooftop zipline

At the top floor, you’ll find a zipline anchored to the exterior wall. This zipline leads directly to the Santa Maria Houses rooftop.

Attach to the line, ride across, and land on the opposite roof.

    4. Locate the rooftop door

Once you land, look for a propped-open rooftop door. This is the point of entry that grants access to the building interior.

Head inside and follow the narrow corridor pathway downward until you reach an overlook of the sandy courtyard.

Finding the Dead Drop in the Courtyard

Inside the courtyard, you’ll see a sunken area filled with sand and scattered debris. The dead drop is positioned nearly at the center—often appearing as a small container partially buried in the ground.

Approach and interact with the dead drop to complete your objective. There are no additional steps, and no enemies should spawn directly inside this courtyard unless another player has dragged hostiles in.

The moment you collect the item, the quest updates and you’re free to extract immediately.

    Extracting Safely

With the objective finished, exit the building via the same rooftop route or return through the internal staircase. Extraction routes nearby are typically safe, but ARC patrols increase significantly near the Buried City’s eastern edges. If you’re running the mission during a Night Raid, be especially careful with movement noise and visibility.

Head to your nearest extraction elevator or hatch and return to the main menu to turn the quest in.

    Quest Rewards

After delivering your findings, you’ll receive:

    • Advanced Electrical Components ×2

    • Speaker Components ×4

These materials are valuable for crafting and upgrading several mid-game modules, making this quest worth completing even if you’re only doing it for progression.

    Why Digging Up Dirt Matters

While the quest seems small in scale compared to the major story missions, Digging Up Dirt teaches a key lesson for later Arc Raiders objectives:

    • Not all paths in the Buried City are straightforward.

    • Vertical navigation is essential to progression.

    • Environmental puzzles often hide behind misleading map markers.

Learning to approach areas from rooftops becomes increasingly important as you progress, especially when raider and ARC patrols grow more aggressive in higher-tier activities.

    Leveling Up Faster

If you enjoy the exploration and challenge of Arc Raiders but want help progressing through difficult sections, farming rare materials, or completing trickier quests, Arc Raiders Boosting at GladiatorBoost is a reliable option. Their professional boosters assist with complex missions, resource grinding, and high-level survival runs—making it easy to advance faster without losing the excitement of the game.

    Final Thoughts

The Digging Up Dirt quest may seem confusing at first, especially since ground-level entry is blocked and the courtyard isn’t visible from outside. But once you know the rooftop route and how to cross via the zipline, the mission becomes quick, efficient, and surprisingly fun.

Completing this quest not only rewards useful crafting materials but also reinforces the importance of examining vertical paths—something Arc Raiders emphasizes in many of its exploration-based challenges.

Follow the steps above, keep your movement quiet during Night Raids, and you’ll complete Digging Up Dirt with ease.
