    Joining a Grand Company

Before we delve into the details of ranking up, let’s quickly touch upon joining a Grand Company. When you reach level 20, you’ll have the opportunity to pledge your allegiance to one of the three Grand Companies: the Immortal Flames, the Maelstrom, or the Order of the Twin Adder. Each Grand Company represents a different city-state in Eorzea and has its own unique style and goals.

To join a Grand Company, head to the respective headquarters in Ul’dah, Limsa Lominsa, or Gridania and speak to the recruiting officer. They will guide you through the process and provide you with a starting rank. Once you’ve joined a Grand Company, it’s time to focus on ranking up.

How to Rank Up in Your Grand Company

To increase your Grand Company rank, you’ll need to visit the Personnel Officer located in your Grand Company headquarters. Upon speaking with them, choose the option to apply for a promotion. This will display the requirements you need to fulfill in order to rank up.

The following table outlines the requirements for each rank:

    Rank Requirements
Private Second Class Pay 2000 Grand Company Seals to the Personnel Officer in your Grand Company Headquarters.
Private First Class Pay 3000 Grand Company Seals to the Personnel Officer in your Grand Company Headquarters.
Corporal Pay 4000 Grand Company Seals to the Personnel Officer in your Grand Company Headquarters.
Sergeant Third Class – Complete Rank 1 of your Grand Company’s Hunting Log.
    – Pay 5000 Grand Company Seals to the Personnel Officer in your Grand Company Headquarters.
Sergeant Second Class Pay 6000 Grand Company Seals to the Personnel Officer in your Grand Company Headquarters.
Sergeant First Class Pay 7000 Grand Company Seals to the Personnel Officer in your Grand Company Headquarters.
Chief Sergeant – Complete the quest “Shadows Uncast” by speaking to the Commander in your Grand Company headquarters and subsequently completing the dungeon Dzemael Darkhold.
    – Pay 8000 Grand Company Seals to the Personnel Officer in your Grand Company Headquarters.
Second Lieutenant – Complete Rank 2 of your Grand Company’s Hunting Log.
    – Complete the quest “Gilding the Bilious” by speaking to the Commander in your Grand Company headquarters and subsequently completing the dungeon Aurum Vale.

    – Pay 10000 Grand Company Seals to the Personnel Officer.
Captain – Complete five different Command Missions with your Squadron in the Barracks of your Grand Company headquarters.
    – Have your Squadron complete the flagged mission “Sapper Strike”.
    – Talk to the Personnel Officer.

    Advancing Through the Ranks

Now that we have a clear understanding of the rank requirements, let’s explore some of the steps you can take to fulfill them and advance through the ranks.

Private Ranks: Private Second Class, Private First Class, and Corporal

To progress through the initial private ranks, you’ll need to accumulate Grand Company Seals. These seals can be earned through various activities, such as participating in FATEs, completing dungeons and trials, and undertaking Grand Company-specific tasks.

Once you’ve earned the required number of seals, head to your Grand Company headquarters and pay them to the Personnel Officer. This will initiate your promotion, and you’ll be granted the next rank.

Moving Up to Sergeant Ranks: Sergeant Third Class, Sergeant Second Class, and Sergeant First Class

In addition to earning Grand Company Seals, advancing to the sergeant ranks requires completing specific objectives. For the first sergeant rank, Sergeant Third Class, you’ll need to complete Rank 1 of your Grand Company’s Hunting Log. This log can be accessed through the Main Menu > Logs > Hunting Log.

Within the Hunting Log, click on your Grand Company logo to view the log specific to your faction. Some enemies can only be found in the optional dungeon Halatali, which can be unlocked by starting the blue quest “Hallo Halatali” with Nedrick Ironheart in Vesper Bay, Western Thanalan.

Once you’ve completed Rank 1 of the Hunting Log, pay the required number of Grand Company Seals to the Personnel Officer to achieve the next sergeant rank.

Reaching the Higher Ranks: Chief Sergeant, Second Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, and Captain

Climbing the ranks beyond sergeant level involves completing challenging quests and missions. For example, to achieve the rank of Chief Sergeant, you must embark on the quest “Shadows Uncast” by speaking to the Commander in your Grand Company headquarters. This quest culminates in the completion of the dungeon Dzemael Darkhold.

Similarly, to attain the rank of Second Lieutenant, you must complete Rank 2 of your Grand Company’s Hunting Log. Some enemies in this log can only be found in the optional dungeon The Sunken Temple of Qarn, which can be unlocked by starting the blue quest “Braving New Depths” with Nedrick Ironheart.

Additionally, you need to undertake the quest “Gilding the Bilious” from the Commander and complete the Aurum Vale dungeon. Once you’ve fulfilled both the Hunting Log objective and the quest requirements, pay the designated number of Grand Company Seals to the Personnel Officer.

Advancing to the ranks of First Lieutenant and Captain involves further engaging with the activities in your Grand Company’s Barracks. The First Lieutenant rank requires increasing your Squadron’s rank to 3 by completing the flagged mission “Crystal Recovery.” On the other hand, to become a Captain, you must complete five different Command Missions with your Squadron and have them complete the flagged mission “Sapper Strike.”

    Conclusion

Ranking up in your Grand Company is a significant accomplishment in FFXIV. It not only unlocks new gameplay features but also allows you to access exclusive rewards and privileges. By following the steps outlined in this guide and fulfilling the requirements for each rank, you’ll steadily progress through the ranks and experience the full potential of your chosen Grand Company. So, don your uniform, gather your Grand Company Seals, and embark on your journey to greatness!
